StartingPointBot... a look back 2 years ago

 
StartingPointBot was my first foray into Robotics fun 2 years ago this week. A SainSmart 4wd base, Arduino Mega, L298 motor controller, sweep servo for ultrasonic sensor, a rear facing Ultrasonic sensor, IR motion sensor and an IR controller for override (like HALT!),
Eventually I added an LCD screen for some output data, at one point made eyes on the LCD. I ended up adding an IP camera. Will all that fit on this base? Sure, but it was way too heavy, the four wheel "skid steer" was always hard on the tiny motors. As you can see in the video, it needed the tires off the rear wheels to be able to turn. The motors didn't like turning at all.
 I learned a lot making that robot, an then started the BRP... I'll post that soon

So this is where it all started. Seems like a pretty good build for being the first! How long did it take you? And is it still alive?

I think I spent a week putting the basic kit together, then soon started adding stuff. Its in pieces right now, but I have been thinking of putting it back together again, in its more basic form.

It's nice to see old projects being put up again (after all those that got lost on LMR). It's impressive how fast you did progress, my basic robot kit was done quickly, too (it just needed assembly), but extending it proves to be a much longer process. You seem to be skilled in working materials. Congrats.

I plan on getting some of my other stuff posted soon, next the Big Robot Project, and some more components. Great to see you here!
