Good doggie "Scout"

I was going to build the ROFI biped walking robot... started printing the files from Thingiverse and soon found that I was not a fan of the design of the parts... I already ordered servos, so what to do? Then JeffRo showed me a link to a quadruped bot, and he started off building one of his amazing PVC creations, Roamer. Well, that got me thinking about a quadruped. Sure I had done some walking bots before, but they were Theo Jansen inspired walkers, cool, but not the same as a real 4 leg one. So off to SketchUp and I started designing "Scout".

He'll be my little doggie. So far I have the frame completed. It uses MG996r metal gear servos, with bearings supporting the leg pivots. He still needs a head, but I guess I need to decide what sensors he will have and what microcontroller I will use, I have a number of options. Scout is large enough to hold an 8" tablet, but I'm not sure I want that much weight. I'm thinking maybe a Raspberry Pi 3 and a Propeller, along with a Veyron servo driver.
I have a lot of work to do, and the coding should be a real challenge

Hope the print files make sense, if not shoot me a comment and I'll help you out. Head and rest of body to come....

Great job there Roxanna. So glad to see that you decided to build one as well. Will you be using the windows tablet like I did? Looking forward to seeing him walk.. Maybe we should call him Donny...Like the purple socks...

I think I am going to skip the tablet and use a Raspberry Pi 3 for this guy. Got too many Pi's and need to start using them. :)

As usual a great build! Looking forward to see it complete. Will you use Johnny 5 on this one?

I think so, as long as I can work it all out, but Johnny 5 NodeJS looks good. Will be a steep learning curve.

Thanks Jinx!
He has yet to actually walk... I'm thinking he will need some rubber added for traction. I got sidetracked on another project, making a new design of my Kossel Mini... now called "Carbon Kossel" larger stronger, etc. and all parts printed with 15% Carbon filament! Stay tuned for a post on it here
