Max the Robot

Hello my name is Matt and i have a robot that my Dad is helping me build, I'm ten years old. My Dad's name is peter, he helps me becauce he is good at it. Max is a diffenental drive robot, l've been working on him for over a year, he has three wheels two speakers at the front and alot of circuit boards. Its brain is a raspberry pi that runs ubuntu and ROS indigo that my dad loaded for me. He has most of the programs from Robbie, I can talk to Max with a phone and he has a large chat bot program with lots of answers to my questions. I can drive him around the house or tell him where to go. Max can last all day with out recharging. The other day Max went to my school the others really liked him

here is Max growing

Love the look of your robot.  Makes me think of "Johhny 5".  Keep up the good work and do keep us updated on any progress.

Very cool.  I love the look and your work with 3D printing.  I am hoping to build something similar for my next bot.

  1. Over the last couple of months my dad and I been working on a new head for Max. The new head has eyebrows, two eyes, a mouth and two ears. His eyes have a blue light that will turn on when Max is online. Max can be happy, sad, angery, frustrated, bord, depressed, exited and neutral. Tonight we got the program working now we just have to the face to match  the mood,Max upgrade lucky all the hard work has already been done on Robbie

Very cool update! You will have fun with giving Max visual emotions and we will be amazed how it comes across.

To me simple things like eyebrows or eyelids on a humonoid and ears on an "animalnoid" help to dramatically help communicate emotions.

Reminds me I need to drag out my old RAD robot and get his ears and head moving around.

One month ago we put the raspberry pi into Max's head, to make it easier to add the camera. The software and setup is the same as Robbie's, We added a xbox kinect camera to Max's body for navigation. We found a small problem with Max's wheel encoders. Every now and then the values will spike, moving Max about 3000 meters off the map then Max gets lost. I think this is a problem for dad to fix. But we can still drive him around with a phone and talk to him.
